Corporate Social Responsibility and one of my favorite companies, “Google“. Google has a strong brand and it is a household word. How many times have you said to someone “How do you know that?” and they replied “I Googled It!”.
All jokes aside I love this company and I get lost in space, (cyberspace) everytime I use it. The search engine is one of the first of the Internets offspring. Not all of the websites out there can be considered “offspring”. Offspring are the brainchildren of the internet. Users couldn’t function without these types of site’s. Sites like Yahoo, AOL, Google. Without these “Search Engines” the internet would be cumbersome and it wouldn’t function as it does now. Just think about how many times you use Google per day and multiple that by the number of users on the internet. Teachers and students, lawyers and doctors, moms and dads everyone, every type. We will talk more about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) in future blogs.
So how do you stay ahead of the curve when you’re Google?
“I believe the key to Google’s success is clearly the way they pamper their employees…” Melissa Adams
I have read articles about what it’s like to work for Google. I always envisioned it as this place where young people worked and played at the same time. I think about the cool, brightly colored fun furniture, and the free open office space’s I’d seen in magazines. The sushi bar, ice cream and frozen yogurt bars, and free Starbucks all day long. In my fantasy a group of millinials lounging in inflatable chairs upload code and download content while listening to Cherly Crow and Lenny Kravitz live. While I let my imagination run wild I noticed that when I thought of this brand, employee benefits didn’t necessarily come to mind. At least not until Google put it in my mind (yes mind control) no not mind control they did it by raising awareness. I believe the most important element to any businesses success is directly linked to how well they treat their employees. As entrepreneurs we find this out early when we ask our friends and family to work for us and it seems like they just “don’t care” about your business. Partly because its a small start up operating out of the living room and partly because…well…they don’t care, it’s your dream not theirs…Melissa Adams
Is this a marketing ploy or is Google being sincere?
These days the only thing on the minds of many in the LGBT community is “Legalizing LGBT Marriage” so the fact that Google has launched a Legalize Love Campaign is not only a bold and brave move but it seems very Strategic also.
In my opinion, Google is a great example of a company that wants to show the LGBT community they care. This weenkend (July 7, 2012) Google announced a new campaign to promote safety for the LGBT community as a whole.
According to the Human Rights Campaign website “Google has been an outstanding advocate for equality in the U.S. The company has earned 100 percent ratings on the Corporate Equality Index for six years.” I am not surprised that Google supports the LGBT community the Googles Legalize Love Campiagn shows they are not just saying they support Gay Marrage but they are showing they support us. I love this statement Google posted on their website.
It States :
“Though our business and employees are located in offices around the world, our policies on non-discrimination are universal throughout Google. We are proud to be recognised as a leader in LGBT inclusion efforts, but there is still a long way to go to achieve full equality.”
“Legalise Love is our call to decriminalise homosexuality and eliminate homophobia around the world. At Google, we encourage people to bring their whole selves to work. In all of our 60 offices around the world, we are committed to cultivating a work environment where Googlers can be themselves and thrive. We also want our employees to have the same inclusive experience outside of the office, as they do at work, and for LGBT communities to be safe and to be accepted wherever they are”(Google).
I am giving Google a “Standing Ovation” this is a great and difficult task they have undertaken, because Google is a Global company. So although being gay may not be legal in the host country in which they work, Gay Google employees(Gayglers) will still receive the same rights as “The Gayglers in Google’s employee network for LGBT employees, friends, and allies. Gayglers chapters exist just about everywhere Google operates around the world—from San Francisco to New York, London to Zurich, Israel and India”(Google). For those of you who like Android Products I have enclosed a cool find. This is the exact phone I have and if you use Google and have a G-mail Account this phone can make your life a Little easier. I also am using Google Music, Google +, and Picasa, so all my media is in one place “The Google Cloud”. It is actually a cool phone because you can sync everything to it, including your Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and a host of other sites. The APP’s are cool and Google music allows you to save your music online so you will never have to switch your music from one computer to the next everytime you buy a new computer. The same thing goes for pictures I use Picasa and Google+ together they save every picture from your phone and computer in one place and they can never be lost. Unless someone unplugs the internet.
The Android Tablet: I am from the Old School I still like to hear the sound of a keyboard taping. I actually still have a typewriter.
Leave a Comment I am interested in knowing what you think about Google and Android.
